Andy Demetriou
Andy Demetriou's story begins in Poplar, East London, before he moved through various corners of North London, including Stoke Newington, Edmonton, and Enfield. His love for music ignited early on when he began drumming in a school band. That passion quickly took him beyond the classroom and onto pub and club stages across London, the UK, and even Europe—playing high-energy sets for American naval audiences in Spain.
As life progressed, Andy married Margaret and settled down in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, where they raised two children. His focus shifted from music to business, as he and Margaret built a successful communications company. Though music took a backseat, it never fully left him.
In 1977, Andy joined the band Charlie Ungry, diving into a raw, high-energy sound. The group quickly recorded a three-track demo at Argonaut Studio in Maida Vale, owned by Tom Newman of Tubular Bells fame. Impressed by their sound, Newman invited them back to record a full 12-track session in just five days. The band soon had a showcase at Fulham’s legendary Greyhound, drawing industry attention and crowd enthusiasm. But despite the momentum, the band dissolved just seven months later.
Decades later, in 2004, Andy and original vocalist Tony revived Charlie Ungry’s music. The band’s previously unreleased material found a new life: Obscure Records in Greece issued a CD, while Rave Up Records in Italy and Hozac Records in the U.S. released vinyl EPs and LPs. The legacy of their short-lived spark was finally recognized and appreciated.
After selling his business, Andy returned to his creative roots, launching Red Creative Film, an award-winning film company known for telling gritty, compelling stories. His musical inspirations span a wide spectrum, from the hard rock of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin to the soulful grooves of James Brown and the intricate layers of King Crimson and Pink Floyd.
Today, Andy drums with The Crockofdaisies, a band formed alongside longtime friend bassist Greg Kaye, guitarist/songwriter Bob Newman, and songwriter/vocalist Adam Gill. The chemistry was instant, and their distinct sound is heading toward a vinyl album release slated for late 2025. From early pub gigs to international releases, Andy’s journey is one of rhythm, reinvention, and unwavering creative drive
